CLC outreach program - July 2016
Reaching out to the Less Fortunate
The Christian Life Community (CLC) had the privilege of organizing an outreach program on the 2nd of July to Sumanahalli, the Leprosy Home. The programme commenced at 8:30am in the school chapel. The students and teachers in-charge along with Fr. Robert gathered for prayer to seek God’s blessings.
The team left for the home at 9 am with cheerful hearts and contributions in kind. They were greeted with a warm welcome from Mr. Mastan and the director, Fr. Joseph.
After a brief introduction about the place and an interactive session on the spread of leprosy and the measures taken by the staff at Sumanahalli to battle leprosy and eradicate the begging system, the team was taken for a tour in and around the 63 acre ground which housed many other facilities like an HIV home, a juvenile home, a school and also a leather factory. The students gathered at the HIV home for a brief talk.
The residents are trained in various therapeutic skills like paper bag making, candle making leather work and have in-house workshops. The products were displayed for sale and were priced reasonably.
The Josephites enjoyed the outreach and were touched by the work done by the Fathers in the rehabilitation of the less fortunate in society.
